5 Habits To Win Your Day Before It Starts

Running

1 | Hydrating

Why must you drink water in the morning? The human body is made up of about 60% water, so it only makes sense to prioritize drinking water. Morning water consumption rehydrates your body after a night of sleep. Throughout the night, your body naturally loses water through breathing, urination, sweating, and even slight movements. Since your body does not naturally replace this lost water, failing to drink enough can lead to dehydration, which is detrimental to your overall health.

Make water drinking more appealing. Incorporate some flavor by infusing slices of lemon, mint, or strawberries. Or, utilize sugar-free flavor drops in your water bottle for flavor.Another suggestion is to keep a water bottle with you at all times, like in your vehicle, on your table, or next to your bed. This will make it easier for you to consume more water.

You can also attempt to purchase a bottle with time markers on the side so that you can monitor. This way, you’ll be more motivated to drink all the water in the bottle throughout the day. I have been using an affordable bottle from Amazon for six months, and I haven’t encountered any issues with it so far. However, you can choose whichever bottle you believe is best for you, there isn’t a right answer, you can use it because of the color, design, recommendation or even price.

2 | Doing Small Tasks

Starting your day with small tasks can prepare you for a great day. Even small gestures such as tidying up your bed or stretching and exercising can put you in a good mood as well as make you feel more productive. Science indicates that completing these activities can reduce stress levels by removing the burden of memorizing so many tasks, making you feel lighter about your workload.

Additionally, your psychological health is boosted since you start the day feeling good about yourself, which is an accomplishment. As you integrate these small chores into your daily life, you feel more energized and in control. Most of the time, when we have lots to do, we swiftly shift from one task to another. But accomplishing smaller, yet manageable tasks, in the early morning hours is an effective time management strategy that encourages you to accomplish even more.

For instance, if you don’t want to go to the gym at any point, you are likely to just not go. But the moment you enter, you will be a lot better right away. If possible, try to exercise in the morning at least once. It will really kick-start your day and significantly make you feel better throughout.

3 | Reading

I was interested in reading comics when I was younger, but after growing up, reading became difficult for me. My problem was that I liked reading at night, but as a child, I used to read as soon as I woke up. I was fresher and more motivated in the morning, but in the evening, I fell asleep while reading and would need to start all over again as I would not recall anything.

My source of feeling secure is reading. It reduces stress during the day and improves concentration and memory, as well as stimulating mental health.

Whenever I am under stress, I always spare some time to read a few pages. I read subjects related to my posts today, but you can read anything you would like. No matter if it is adventure, horror, or fiction, there is always something to gain.

My personal view is that if you have a goal such as building your mindset or motivation, then you must read books that encompass those categories.  If you’re having trouble with reading, try finding a topic that you like. You are always watching romance movies.

Try starting a simple romance book. You are into action, do the same thing, ten pages each day for a month, and it can change your perspective on reading. After that one consistent month of reading 10 pages per day, believe me, you don’t need any more tips on how to read.

You found the joy and how to appreciate a good book.

Some other benefits of reading, other than what I listed above, include:

  • Better communication skills

  • More knowledge

  • Reduced stress

  • Motivation to get through the day

My top advice to you is to read books that highly inspire you. Why would you read a romance novel if you are not a fan of romantic stories? Try to include reading in your morning routine. However, if you prefer reading at night, do so before you sleep, and don’t forget to turn off your phone to prevent distractions.

4 | Establishing Goals

It is not just a question of writing down what you have to do in the day. Goal setting is a process of transforming your mind to productivity. You may have at some point in time made up your mind to do something in the morning and failed to write it down, and by the time morning came, you simply forgot about it.

When you start your day, set achievable goals for the day, week, or even month/year. Start with easy tasks and keep them simple to start getting yourself pumped up and motivated to do more.

Why Should You Set Goals?

Planning objectives in the night or early morning will allow you to schedule your time in a manner that you allocate your time and resources according to priority. Your motivation will still rise because you will know what should be accomplished, and you will feel like you worked for the day.

If you schedule your goals for the next day the night before, you’ll be less stressed as you’ll know what you have to do in the morning. Or else, if you schedule your goals in the morning, you’ll have a fresher mind and clearer perception when you get up. In this way, you can modify your goals based on your state of mind for the day. It’s up to you in the end.

The key is to create those goals.

While goal-setting can improve your day, don’t attempt to get yourself to do too many things if it’s a new routine.

If you can’t get through most of what you plan, your attitude, energy, and stress levels could ramp up higher than you anticipate.

Begin with planning five things a day. Once you know you can handle that, work your way up to seven or even ten tasks.

Just don’t rush. Your attitude won’t change overnight. It takes time to learn and develop.

5 | Eating a Good Breakfast

Breakfast is often referred to as “the most important meal of the day!” It kick-starts your metabolism, keeping you burning calories all day long. A breakfast provides you with energy to accomplish things, improves your memory and concentration, and is good for your health because it reduces your risk for heart disease, obesity, and diabetes.

What if I Can’t Eat Breakfast as Soon as Wake Up?

That has been something hard for me as well when I was trying to begin a breakfast routine. The secret? Attempt waking a bit earlier. Complete the four things that I have outlined in my previous blog, and then, about an hour later than that, have your breakfast.

You do not have to eat as soon as you wake up. Instead, drink some water, read some pages in a book, get your bed made, and set your goals for the day if you did not previously do so the night before. Eating breakfast gives your body extra calories to burn throughout the day.

Without it, your body will be more reserved and burn fewer calories.

What Should You Eat for Breakfast?

Some of the healthiest foods to have for breakfast are eggs, fruit, oatmeal, yogurt, and even coffee. According to Antipolis, S. (2025), “People who drink coffee in the morning have a lower risk of dying from cardiovascular disease and a lower overall mortality risk compared to those who drink coffee throughout the day.”

It’s your metabolism kick-start, that helps you burn calories all day long. All the energy you need to get your goals done? It’s from breakfast, your memory and concentration gets better and also has impact on your health, as it reduces your risk for developing heart diseases, obesity and diabetes.
